Dear Applicant,
Twice each year The Community Needs Committee of the First United Methodist Church of Germantown requests proposals for funding. Proposals are sought in the fall prior to Christmas, and in the spring prior to Easter. Funds from special offerings contributed by the congregation at Christmas and Easter are divided among selected applicants. These grants depend on the amount contributed by the congregation, and the needs of the applicants. Usually awards of $500 to $2500 are given to three or four organizations.
The Committee is composed of members of the congregation. Organizations are selected to receive grants by consensus of the committee. Grants are given to projects of organizations that are providing service to people in need and/or support FUMCOG’s stance on social justice. Priority is given to organizations in or affecting the Germantown/Northwest Philadelphia area. All proposals submitted are reviewed.
All applicants will be notified by letter of acceptance or rejection. The organizations selected to receive grants from the offerings may be asked to send a representative to make a brief presentation to the congregation during worship on a Sunday before the offering.
Organizations selected can expect to receive a check about six weeks after the collection. A short written report about the outcome of the funded project is requested in six to twelve months that we can share with the congregation via the church newsletter, Tidings.
Enclosed is a Support Application Form. If you have pre printed material or would like to use computerized forms to address the requested information, they may be submitted in lieu of the form. However, please make sure that all items requested on the form are covered so that we can compare requests fairly.
DEADLINE FOR FORMS TO BE RETURNED TO THE CHURCH OFFICE THIS CYCLE IS MARCH 16, 2012
Applications received after the committee has met will not be considered until the next cycle.
