ABOUT THE OFFERING

FUMCOG’s members celebrate each Christmas by making a special offering for community needs. The FUMCOG Community Needs Committee accepts grant proposals for local community projects that promote social justice or community empowerment, especially (but not exclusively) in Northwest Philadelphia. Germantown ArtHaus

Germantown Art Haus, located at 6228 Germantown Avenue, just two blocks from the Church, aims to encourage and nurture creativity and personal growth through the promotion of community arts, and education programming. Our Christmas Offering will empower young artists at the local Henry H. Houston Elementary School, through the arts, providing them with a variety of professional artist Mentors, and the opportunity to plan, curate and promote a community art show that highlights their work.

Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry

Germantown Avenue Crisis Ministry works in partnership with virtually every other organization in Germantown to connect at-risk Northwest Philadelphia residents to resources within themselves and the community that can help resolve their crises, stabilize their lives, and equip them to take the next steps toward self-sufficiency. They help vulnerable clients faced with crises to provide food on their tables; heat, lights, and water in their homes; a roof over their heads; and ultimately, to help them chart a path toward self-sufficiency.
They seek our help to pay for such items as grocery gift cards for clients with special dietary needs,
and repair or purchase of small items like fans, room heaters and small appliances.

Germantown Community Fridge

Germantown Community Fridge set up and maintains the fridge and cupboard outside FUMCOG and another on Schoolhouse Lane, offering food 24/7 to needy residents of our neighborhood. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the Community Fridge started during the COVID epidemic and is still operating in response to the continuing hunger crisis. During the past year, volunteers from FUMCOG and elsewhere have added a monthly meal freshly cooked in the FUMCOG kitchen. Our Offering will pay for the supplies the volunteers need to prepare and serve that meal.
